Public Utilities

G&D has provided engineering consulting services to municipalities throughout North and South Carolina. Some of our services have included:

  • Water and sewer infrastructure planning and modeling
  • Water and sewer pipeline design and construction administration
  • Pipeline rehabilitation design and construction administration
  • Development of standard details and specifications for water and sewer design and construction
  • Veteran's Park Sanitary Sewer, Shelby NC

G&D designed a new sanitary sewer trunk to replace several existing trunks and mains that experienced overflows during wet weather. The new sewer was part of a larger neighborhood improvement project, and it consisted of 2,000 linear feet of epoxy lined 20 inch diameter ductile iron pipe. Part of the new sewer main was encased in a 36-inch steel pipe that was installed via a bore under a state road.

Thirteenth Street Water Main Replacement Project, Newton, NC

G&D assisted the City of Newton, North Carolina, in rehabilitating a portion of its water distribution system. As part of this work, G&D designed the replacement of the Thirteenth Street water main. Hydrant flow tests carried out under the supervision of G&D found that head losses through the existing pipe were very high and that the resultant pressures were very low. An EPA-NET model was developed to analyze the system. As a result of this analysis, G&D recommended the replacement of approximately 1,500 linear feet of four-inch diameter cast iron water main with new six-inch ductile iron pipe (DIP). This project also included the replacement of associated services and fire hydrants. Contract documents were prepared and the appropriate permits secured.

Town of Mooresville Land Development Standards

G&D assisted the Town with the development of standards for design and construction of water, sewer, streets and drainage. A copy of the finished manual can be downloaded at the link below.
